As I’m in the process of buying a new house and having to deal with a whole slew of people, it amazes me how few people actually do what they’re supposed to do.
Today’s post is about excellence. Whether you’re in selling or marketing or both, you have to deal with people. Even if you sell through a website it’s people that buy from you, not machines.
I’ve been fortunate to have spent over a decade in personal one on one direct sales, which taught me some very important lessons about this concept of excellence.
If you want to attract more people to do business with you, here’s an idea:
Do What You Said You Were Going To Do!
Sounds simple, right? But you know that most people do not follow this principle.
If you promise something to your prospect or customer, don’t just deliver it, OVERDELIVER. Surprise people with doing more than what’s expected.
I’ve always tried to do more than was expected of me. And when you exceed people’s expectations, they reward you with more business.
This is the principle of going the extra mile. In my old business, I would never hesitate to spend more time with a customer than a lot of people in my industry.
I wanted to make sure they understood and were clear about what we were doing.
I wasn’t building simply sales, I was developing life long relationships, that to this day pay off for me.
In my online business today, I do my very best to answer questions as quickly as possible. I’ve on several occasions have called people that have inquired about something on my website.
Now how often do you get a call from someone, who’s website you’ve visited. Unless they were trying to sell you something, probably never.
I can recall several occasions where I’d call someone, and it would lead to them asking me what else could I recommend, because my advice was helpful to them, and that would lead to more sales.
The bottom line is if you want to rise above 99% of your competitors, do what you say you’re going to do, and do more than expected.
