I’m still in Florida, going on our 4th week now.
Wow, to be away, going to the beach everyday sipping on coconut juice under the palm tree is absolutely amazing. Someone back home asked me if we’re tired of the sun and the ocean.
Let me think about this . . . uh – no.
I don’t think you can ever get tired of this.
Anyways, I was flipping the channels the other day, in between the European soccer championship and Wimbledon, and there was something on one of the news channels about the whole Hulk Hogan son’s case.
In case you haven’t heard, the famous pro-wrestlers son got in accident while street racing, and his friend who was riding with him got very seriously hurt.
I usually don’t involve myself in this kind of stuff, for obvious reasons.
But for the first time a miracle happened, although it only lasted a moment.
On this show, (can’t remember the name), there were 3 guests, talking about the whole thing and the threat phone calls and just as I was to change the channel one of the young ladies said the following:
“Why are we putting so much negative energy around this whole issue. What we need to do is focus on helping this boy that got hurt and put lots of positive energy on that.”
I can’t believe that finally someone said something on the news that made any sense.
Yes, we need to focus on what we want, not dig in the same negativity over and over just creating more negative things to talk about.
Whatever we focus on expands. If we allow the media to influence what we focus on, who’s to blame if we get more of what we focus on? We’re the ones that have allowed it in the first place.
So what’s my antidote?
I’ve always been solutions driven (ok, you got me, most of the time).
Recently I had a situation with a customer, something went wrong with the shipping, and it wasn’t my fault, but was taken out on me.
I could have reacted with the same force, and nothing good would have happened out of it.
Instead, I asked myself – “What do I want?”
What I want is the situation resolved and the customer happy.
So I apologized for what happened, and went out of my way, giving them extras to resolve the situation.
The customer was thrilled, kept the product and in the end everyone was happy.
I know it’s easier said than done, but with practice, this shift in focus towards what you want will change the energy around you and change what you get in the end.
Next time you’re faced with a situation that you’re not happy with, simply ask yourself – “What do I want?”
This will help guide your focus, energy, and what you do towards a positive outcome.
