This is my favorite time of year. As the year comes to an end, and the holiday spirit is in the air, I’ve always taken this time to reflect on the passing year, and set my goals for the next one.
As we’re getting ready for the New Year, take this time to be grateful for all the wonderful things that you’ve experienced this year, and set some big goals for 2008.
As a business person I feel excited about the fact that I can dictate how much money I make. If I was working for a corporation, setting a goal to double my income next year, or even a bigger goal than that, wouldn’t really matter. But if you own your own business, you decide what your paycheck is going to be.
On page 36 of “Think and Grow Rich”, Napoleon Hill goes over the 6 steps of obtaining your desire.
Step 1. Set a goal. Know Exactly what you want. Be specific.
Step 2. Determine exactly what you will give in return for what you want to receive.
Step 3. Set a deadline for your accomplishment.
Step 4. Create a definite plan and put it into action immediately, whether you’re ready or not.
Step 5. Write out a clear concise statement with the 4 steps above, what your goal is, what you will do in return to achieve it, the date you intend to get it, and describe the plan through which you will acquire it.
Step 6. Read your statement twice daily, in the morning and at night, and here’s the key (excerpt from the book) “AS YOU READ – SEE AND FEEL AND BELIEVE YOURSELF ALREADY IN POSESSION OF YOUR GOAL”.
I’ve followed these steps for many things that I’ve set for myself. And you know what, most of the time, I didn’t hit these goals by the date I would set for myself.
However, I did get them eventually. The mere fact of writing your goals down, and planning, and giving it focus and attention, sets the energy in motion. I’ve read this formula 13 years ago for the 1st time. BUT, at that time, I missed the most important part, and I believe most people miss it. And that is, Step # 6. If you don’t FEEL as though you’re in possession of it, it will not happen. Your fears and doubts will sabotage your goal.
So take the time to decide what you really want and see and feel as you’ve already got it, and KNOW that it’s on it’s way.
